In times of repetitive inhumanity and distressing global events, it’s crucial to maintain consistency in safeguarding our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being from the negative influences that surround us. Although completely avoiding negativity is impractical, especially in our technology-driven world, I’ve found solace in a powerful alternative—REST.
Rest does not have to be earned; it does not have to be explained, and it is not a luxury for a select privileged few. It’s a necessity for both me and you.
This message is not a coincidence; it has found its way to you with a purpose. It serves as a poignant reminder for you to adopt the transformative practice of rest. In the whirlwind of life’s challenges, demands, and constant information bombardment, we often overlook the vital necessity of nurturing ourselves through rest. This isn’t just a suggestion; it’s an invitation to prioritize your well-being and cultivate a sanctuary of tranquility amid the chaos.
Consider this moment as a gentle tapping on your shoulder from the universe, urging you to pause, take a deep breath, and acknowledge the significance of rest in your life. It’s an encouragement to recognize that your mental, emotional, and physical well-being deserves intentional care and restoration amidst your responsibilities, aspirations, and the broader societal turbulence.
Rest isn’t merely about stopping your activities; it’s about creating intentional spaces for rejuvenation. It involves stepping back from the relentless pace of life, allowing your mind to exhale, and granting your spirit the opportunity to recharge. When life’s incessant demands threaten to deplete your energy and resilience, embracing rest becomes an act of self-preservation.
Here are ways to step away and embrace R E S T.
REVITALIZE and restore your mind and soothe your emotions. The emotional toll has been particularly challenging for many of us in recent weeks. The George Floyd trial and the unfortunate deaths of more Black individuals at the hands of police officers have reopened emotional wounds that struggle to find healing. If your mind and body are bearing the weight of excessive stress, what you truly need is intentional restoration—a carefully curated approach to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit. Seek out gentle practices that allow you to gracefully release the cortisol and adrenaline triggered by the stress response. Grant your mind a respite from the constant influx of distressing news and social media exposure, creating space for restoring mental and emotional tranquility.
EASE into activities. Incorporate light exercises or activities into your routine, allowing your body to release built-up tension. Whether it’s a leisurely walk, gentle stretches, or yoga, these activities can help ease physical and emotional strain. Set clear boundaries on the amount of time and energy you spend on people and activities not aligned with your well-being. Establishing these boundaries contributes to inner peace and shields you from unnecessary stressors. By consciously choosing to engage in activities that promote relaxation and rejuvenation, you create a harmonious balance between your physical and emotional well-being. As you EASE into these intentional practices, you pave the way for a more serene and centered way of living.
SAVOR SERENITY by embracing a deliberate slowdown in the pace of your life. This isn’t a reflection of laziness but a conscious decision about what deserves space in your life. Seek solace in activities that bring a sense of calm and peace. Whether it’s enjoying a warm cup of tea, indulging in a good book, or simply sitting in silence, prioritize moments that nourish your inner serenity. Shift away from stress and surround yourself with soothing experiences that replenish your spirit.
TRUST in divine guidance: While the world may seem unpredictable, placing your trust in a higher power can provide a sense of stability. Recognize that, despite human uncertainties, there is a greater plan at play. TRUST in your ability to fulfill your purpose, supported by unwavering faith in the promises of a higher authority.
